My Defining Moments in BMT
Left, Right, Left, Right’. Those are the famous words that I now have to listen to. However, looking back from the cookhouse, there stood my family still weeping and waving at me, as I become a soldier to serve the country, a boy who is now going to be a man. I still remember the time when I received the enlistment letter. It was the moment of my life that
I would never forget. Enlisting into army was not something I was hoping for but then again it’s my duty call.
9 weeks have passed and it was more than enough time for this boy to be a man.
During one silent night of the confinement week everyone in the bunk was all sound asleep. Suddenly, loud thuds on the doors were heard and there were people shouting at the top of their lungs. Bright lights fill the bunks. Everyone was awake by the sudden noise. The scene was hectic and it reminded me of a raid scene. All of us were turn out and rushed out, we all landed on the parade square where we made to form a parade. The whole thing turned out to be the passing down of the rifles to us, the new recruits. It was a very honored moment for me as I felt a great sense of responsibility to guard my love ones.
Initially I thought that my stay in Tekong was going to be very mundane. Physical training at Tekong is so much different as compared to my civilian days. This is due to the fact that I would only do physical training during sports or fun activities. However in Tekong, I am motivated to do all of the physical trainings as I am not doing this all by myself but with the whole platoon and the commanders enthusiasms. It gives me the benefit of to never doubt myself of my own capabilities.
The 3rd day of field camp was the most memorable of all. It started off when we were digging for the shell scrapes. Truthfully I really felt like giving up. The hole was muddy and filled with water. Halfway through it, we were all gathered and were prepare to exercise for teardrops. I knew all about it as my father broke the news, which was supposedly to be a secret. Letters were to be given to all us. I looked around and noticed mine came without an envelope.
As I read the content of the letter, I was surprised that it was not a letter from my loved ones. It was a letter well typed by the company. Commanders mentioned it might be a mail error. At first, I was calm. However, upon peeping onto my friend’s letter, reading the salutation could make me hold my tears. It wrote, ‘To my beloved son’, after it was translated from Malay. The reason being was that my Mother always wrote the same way. During the sharing session, I cried in front of the platoon without holding the feelings of being ashamed. The letter would have cured my homesickness, my energy losses and my declining motivation. Being in BMT, I realized the importance of family’s love.
From the start, army is not what I always hope for. However, during my stay here, I was given the taste of reality. The reality you can’t buy or asked for. I manage to get my hands on rifles, learn about law and many more. The one thing that really was an eye opener for me was the Hand Grenade live throw. After throwing the grenade, I really felt a great sense of satisfactory. I am very satisfied with the journey I went through here in army. Above all its a lifetime changing experience that I can never forget.

This gonna be long! lets recap what i did for my field camp!
monday, im on status. so onboard the tonner which filled with logistic; jerry can, tents, benches, bed and bla bla bla. it took like 3/4 of the space and imagine u have to squeeze like more than 10 man in it! HAHA.
we reached the campsite, and everyone offboard the tonner. i stayed behind cuz thats the easiest job. HAHA. the job was to pass down the logistic to the man below. so bla bla bla bla, the rest of the company reached by foot which like 4 km far. everyone settled down and we have to camo on! then str8 away pitched basha!
martin and i have to pitch 2 bashas together. but he jus came back from Route march. so half of his energy gone. and he vomit. so i did alone... but end up i vomit too.. haha. dua2 buddy weak! HAH. luckily the section came in time to help us. after that, we had lunch and collect our ammo. move in the forested area and practice our fire movements.
2nd day, same fire movement and stuffs. oh yeah, lets talk abt the combat ration. it taste nice!! haha. got pasta, rice, dumplings, deserts, mash potato and stuffs. not forgetting the accesories pack which consist of biscuits, energy bar, milo and bla bla bla. hahah. and the best part, u can eat it anytime! as for me, that was a BIG NO NO. if i eat anytime whichs equal i will be eating alot which equal that im gonna go and shit big time! hahaa. tak nak sial. tkda paip, abeh tak selesa. i noe its not the time to complain.. HAHA. wtf, its over.
3rd-day, sial arh, hujan sakk.. jus before we gonna do our PT. haha, jog to nearest trg shed which i think 1 -1.5 km away! HAHA. lepak dere, talk cock! till 10am and we have to go back to campsite.. mcm gitu jugak. at first walked inthe puddle, tgk air tak masuk dlm boot. so confident lah. splash splush splash splush, end up, stokin basah! HAHA. padan muka.
oh, the best reason they wanna punish us will be sloppy movement. but at that time, mmg ada sikit sloppy lah. at first asked to ...
ooohh wtf.. im sleepyy! HAHAH
i had the whole week by myself.
sunday book in, monday book out. becuase i had fever =/
at range the whole day. and was sleeping on the wooden bench, which reminds me of my primary sch canteen, which was so uncomfortable. done my day shoot by the afternoon and waiting lazily for the night shoot. literally NIGHT.
my body was damn weak and i had a fever. OC sent bunch of us to MO. bla bla blacksheep, and found ourself making our way home.
MC for 4 days. my fever kept flunctuate and off to the CINTApc.
CINTApc= love polyclinic.
because poly service were damn slow. i kept twitching my mouth if any elderly went into the room. reason being, they will doing their soap operas. its the fact.
so when i went in, sat down, the doctor mumbled smth. how shud i listen properly if u mumble in the mouth cover. and he scold me for not to listen proerly. doctor tua lah katakan. den he order to pull the mask down. instead of pulling down, i take it off. he scolded me again. pftt. whats the diff right!
and no wonder bercinta! he trying to type out my precription with only 1 finger. HAHAHA
